The castle history

This beautiful feudal castle knew many adventures. After being burnt down by Bern people in 1530, it remained a ruin. It was rebuilt in the course of the 17th century. The main building had to wait till 1723 to recover its dignity and its magnificence, thanks to marchioness Jeanne-Marguerite de Langallerie. Festivities after work! The marchioness was used to organise tremendous parties for her renowned guests.

In 1755, Gaspard de Sellon, a rich Geneva person bought the castle. He accommodated political refugees and exile people there such as Napoleon's brother Joseph Bonaparte. But they began to be troubled with strange noises and bangings they could hear on moonless nights.A human voice and swift light form were recognized. Was it the marchioness's ghost waiting for new parties?
